PRESENTERS:
All training sessions are run by either professionals or those who have had appropriate training on the subject. These include, Nursing Staff, Doctors, Physiotherapist, DoCS Legal Branch, Psychologists, Centrelink, Manager Child Protection Services R.N.S., St. Johns Ambulance Trainers, Counselors, Speech Pathologists and staff from the MSW Regional Foster Care Team.
COMBINED TRAINING:
The importance of combined training is beneficial to both the Carer and Worker. It gives both a better understanding of the issues that arise during a placement. The evaluations have provided the MSWFCT with feedback that can be addressed at the Placement and Managers meetings. This combined training will benefit the partnership.
CARER TRAINING:
The ongoing training of Carers enables them to identify the foster child’s needs, then be able to advocate for the child and understand the importance of early intervention with some children. To take care of themselves in a practical way and to be assertive in a diplomatic manner as they deal with the Professional Workers. This will provide the children that come into the care system with social skills and educational opportunities that they are entitled to. With the correct care the child/young person will develop confidence and be proud of who they are.
EVALUATIONS:
The evaluations from the ongoing training sessions have been very positive. The attendees identify the subjects that are of interest to them. Evaluations have been very complementary re the child minding which to Carers is very important. Childcare is offered at all the sessions.
